I learned this from my mother, and it's a wisdom ingrained in many traditions. Oatmeal Soup Recipe (for 1 person)
This recipe is great for stomach upsets and is also delicious when your stomach is back to normal.
Ingredients:
- 1 heaped teaspoon (or more) TrueBrodo Vegetable Bouillon
- 2.3 dl water
- 1 tablespoon fine oat flakes
- Optional: olive oil or butter, freshly ground pepper
Preparation:
- Boil water and TrueBrodo vegetable stock in a small saucepan.
- Stir in the oat flakes and let the soup simmer on low heat for 10 minutes.
- For acute stomach upset: Strain the soup through a coarse sieve to remove only the mucus. Salt and the natural starch in the oatmeal will help you recover quickly.
- For gourmets: If your stomach allows it, season with a drizzle of olive oil or a knob of butter. If you like, add a little pepper.
- Variation with roasted flavor: Roast the oat flakes in a pan without fat beforehand and then process as described above.
- Note: Once your stomach is stable again, you can leave the oat flakes in the soup and eat them – they provide valuable fiber and a nutty flavor.
Tip: Once the symptoms of stomach flu or upset stomach have subsided, chicken broth is the best choice to help you regain your strength.
